M101001: Admin Server Console for Enterprise Deployment Suite crashes when exiting

When closing the admin server console on a computer with both Enterprise Deployment Suite 8.0 or 8.2 and Enterprise Compliance Manager 8.2.2 installed, the following error may appear: Microsoft Management Console has encountered a problem and needs to close.

This error may occur when the console is closed from the Policy, Distribution Locations, Remote Task Manager, or Software Library nodes.<!--?xml:namespace prefix = u7 ?--><!--?xml:namespace prefix = o ?-->

Cause

Enterprise Deployment Suite and Enterprise Compliance Manager share some DLL files. Some Enterprise Compliance Manager files are incompatible with Enterprise Deployment Suite, so when both products are installed the Enterprise Deployment Suite files must be used.

If Enterprise Deployment Suite is installed over an existing Enterprise Compliance Manager installation, the installer does not update the existing DLL file ManageSoft.MMC.Helper.dll. As a result, the installed ECM file is incompatible with Enterprise Deployment Suite.

Resolution

1. Close the ManageSoft admin console.
2. Backup <ManageSoft Install Dir>\DotNet\in\ManageSoft.MMC.Helper.dll
3. Copy the attached zip file and extract ManageSoft.MMC.Helper.dll to <ManageSoft Install Dir>\DotNet\bin\ and overwrite the existing file.
4. Restart the ManageSoft admin console.
