Virtual infrastructure discovery and inventory for VMware VirtualCenter Server may fail due to SSL communication error.

Symptoms

The virtual infrastructure discovery and inventory tasks that run on the Deployment Manager administration server or distribution servers may fail to connect to the secured web service for VMware VirtualCenter Server when run on the following operating systems:

• Windows Server 2003 SP2 or lower
• Windows XP SP2 or lower

While communicating via SSL, a client may have multiple certificates available to connect to a server. However, the client fails to know what certificate the server has requested. The client then tries each certificate until client finds the certificate that server accepts. Subsequently, this process may cause authentication to fail.

Resolution

Install the latest service pack for the operating system or apply the hotfix provided by Microsoft athttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/909425/

Status

ManageSoft has identified this problem as a limitation for Deployment Manager 8.0 installations on operating systems listed in symptoms above.
