Q204895: How do I slipstream an Office Service Pack into an existing EDS package?

Question

How do I slipstream an Office Service Pack into an existing Deployment Manager package?

Answer

The method to use depends on the type of SP package i.e. if it's the SP installer or the files if you're using the update files that you add to the setup sub-directory the most common method is to:

  1. 1. Create a package which adds the slipstream files into the correct directory e.g.\Setup\UPDATE
  2. 2. Create a pre-requisite so that the new package will only install if the Office package is there
  3. 3. You will also need some method to initiate the re-installation with the slipstreamed files e.g. a run command etc
If you're using an SP3 installer (i.e. an msi or .exe file) then the method is:
  1. Create a package from the SP installer
  2. Modify any external installer settings as required.
  3. Add a pre-requisite so that it only runs if the non-SP version of office is installed.
