Symptoms
This articles covers what to do when you experience the error: "Failed to place item(s) in the distribution job queue (s181m163)" when trying to distribute a package.
Cause
This is caused by one of 3 main situations:
-
The process run by the connection agent service is stopped / frozen
-
There are corrupt files in C:\ManageSoft\Repository\Temp (drive letter may differ depending on your environment).
-
The are old jobs stuck in the job queue
Resolution
To resolve these issues use one or more of the following:
-
Stop and restart the Connection Agent Service (called ManageSoft Connection Agent or Deployment Manager Connection Agent depending on version)
-
Stop the Connection Agent service, remove files in \ManageSoft\Repository\Temp and restart the Connection Agent service
-
Remove the corrupt jobs (if any are significantly older than the rest those are the likely cause, otherwise remove them all) from the job queue which by default is in "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ManageSoft Corp\ManageSoft\Replication Agent\JobQueue" on Windows 2003 and "C:\ProgramData\ManageSoft Corp\ManageSoft\Replication Agent\JobQueue" on later versions
Additional Information
In most cases 1 of the 3 suggestions mentioned in this article should resolve the issue however in exceptional circumstances a reboot of the server might be required following these steps however this is very rare.
If this still does not resolve the issue please contact your support representative.
