M100755: Obtaining the latest version of Baseline Security Analyzer 1.2

Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer 1.2 is used to detect and repair security vulnerabilities. This article describes how to obtain the most recent Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer 1.2 package for use with ManageSoft Security Patch Management 7.2, ManageSoft Security Manager 7.7, and later releases of both products. 

Note: Some releases of ManageSoft Security Patch Management and ManageSoft Security Manager shipped with a ManageSoft package that contained all of Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer (MBSA) 1.2, Enterprise Scanning Tools, and the Office Update Inventory Tool. Current releases of ManageSoft Security Patch Management and ManageSoft Security Manager provide separate packages for each of these tools.

You must follow the instructions below to download and deploy the updated MBSA package if your currently deployed ManageSoft package containing MBSA is version 1.2.4013.4 or earlier.

In addition to updating this package, you should also update the Microsoft Office Update Inventory Tool and Microsoft Enterprise Scan Tools packages, as described in related knowledge base articles (links below).

1. From the Download locations list below, identify whether an update to the Baseline Security Analyzer package is available for your release of ManageSoft Security Patch Management or ManageSoft Security Manager.

   The three different versions of these packages all contain the same MBSA 1.2 Windows Installer (.msi) file. They differ only in the references to the prerequisite packages that shipped with the particular release of ManageSoft Security Manager or ManageSoft Security Patch Management.

   The URL contains SPMxx, where xx shows the ManageSoft product release number for which the package is suitable.

   The SPM76 packages may also be used with ManageSoft Security Patch Management releases 7.2.x and 7.5.x.

   If an update is not available for your ManageSoft Security Patch Management or ManageSoft Security Manager release, you will first need to perform an upgrade.

2. Download the update for your chosen native language, unzip it, and receive it in to an appropriate location in your software library.
3. Distribute the Baseline Security Analyzer package to all appropriate distribution locations.
4. Remove the old Baseline Security Analyzer package package from any policies, and add this version.
