M100690: Obtaining the latest version of Microsoft Enterprise Scan Tools

The Microsoft Enterprise Scan Tools are used to detect and patch vulnerabilities that cannot be detected or patched correctly using Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer (MBSA). From time to time new Enterprise Scan Tools may be made available with the ability to detect and patch specific vulnerabilities.

 

This article describes how to obtain the latest and most up-to-date versions of these tools for use with ManageSoft Security Patch Management 7.6, ManageSoft Security Manager 7.7, and later releases of both products.

Updating the Enterprise Scan Tools

Note: Some releases of ManageSoft Security Patch Management and ManageSoft Security Manager shipped with a ManageSoft package that contained all of Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer (MBSA) 1.2, Enterprise Scanning Tools, and the Office Update Inventory Tool. Current releases of ManageSoft Security Patch Management and ManageSoft Security Manager provide separate packages for each of these tools.

You should deploy this package to all managed devices running ManageSoft release 7.6 or later. This package will have no effect on managed devices running releases of ManageSoft earlier than 7.6.

After upgrading this package, you may need to deploy later versions of the ManageSoft packages containing the Microsoft Office Update Inventory Tool and Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer (MBSA) 1.2. See the related knowledge base articles (links below) for details.

1. If the version of the Enterprise Scanning tools package in the Download locations list below is later than the version currently in your software library, download the update, unzip it, and receive it in to an appropriate location in your software library. (If no update is available, continue to use the Enterprise Scanning Tools package that shipped with your ManageSoft product.)
2. Distribute the Enterprise Scanning Tools package to all appropriate distribution locations.
3. Remove the old Enterprise Scanning Tools package from any relevant policies, and add this new version.
